An effective way to use the Pomodoro method
We all know that the Pomodoro method is a type of method to improve time management and self-improvement. If you are having a problem that you are not able to study effectively, then you have definitely searched on Google How to study effectively. Then, in the search results, you will see that Google is suggesting that you use the Pomodoro method. In this method, you have to study for 25 minutes with maximum efficiency and then take a 15-minute break, and then study for 25 minutes again with maximum efficiency. This method is cool, isn’t it, but there is a problem that the maximum percent of people face that our 15-minute break turns into an hour. Then the only thing that comes into our brain is REGRET! REGRET! And REGRET! There is another type of species of students who make their timetable before sleeping, but when the day starts, somehow their one session didn’t go well then, they will ruin their whole day, I am one of them but after some research I have found better way to increase your productivity and how to slowly build a habit of studying.
The following are the methods that will help you improve your productivity.
1. Find the root cause of your distraction
This step is the most important step; you really need to find the root cause of your distraction, which is stopping you from doing your work. For some students, their root cause of distraction is Gaming, for some it is Movies, Anime, or social media.
Before going further, I want you to read my story. I was addicted to gaming. 1.5 years ago, I used to play a game. Which is the most hated and downloaded game in India? I never liked that game. I wanted to quit that game 1.5 years ago, but I faced some challenges like FOMO game events and the fear of missing online friends. But one day, I decided to quit that game, and I promised God that after a certain accomplishment in my career, I would download these games again. After that I never installed that game but even after uninstalling that game my brain wanted me to play that game and I couldn’t break that promise, but after a year I don’t even crave for that game because it is a well-known fact that in 21 days you will lose a bad habit or get a good habit, same happened to me. After some months, I realized that gaming was never my hobby. I used to play games because I was addicted to them. Don’t forget to guess that game name in the comments.
Let’s come back to the topic I was talking about, the root cause of your distraction. According to the story I previously told you, I am not giving you a conclusion that kills your distraction permanently, you can also use it as a reward system, like after completing your To do list. You will use your distraction as a reward, but don’t forget to reward yourself in a limit, like only for an hour, because if you will reward yourself for around 4 hours next day your brain will get even more lazier it will say to you, bro let’s play a game first then we will start our work. In the first step, you have learnt how you will find the root cause of your distraction and then kill it or minimize it.
2. Making a timetable
The next step is about making a timetable; a lot of students misunderstood the concept of time timetable. Some students make their timetable in such a way that in the timetable they have written, they will study the whole day.
For example, take a look at my timetable, which never worked for me. Later, I analyzed the mistake that happened with my timetable
4:00-7:00 AM (Biology)
7:15-9:00 AM (Bio question practice)
9:00- 10:00 AM (shower and breakfast)
10:00-12:00 PM (physics)
Etc., etc.
Can you see some sort of pattern in this timetable? Yes, there is, even after having a low retention rate, I still used to choose time timetable that requires a lot of energy. To be honest, nothing is wrong with such time timetable, but for students with a lower retention rate, they should start with 30-50 minutes per session.
3. Pomodoro method
As promised, I mentioned earlier about the drawbacks of the pomodoro method, but here is the truth that everyone who was mistaken about using the pomodoro method has never read this article, that is why. Just kidding never take these words seriously the thing I want to tell you is that during pomodoro breaks do not take that break for snacks or for scrolling through the social media I have already told you in step 1 that reward yourself distraction in the end of your day, not during your sessions Pomodoro breaks are also part of your sessions. During the break, just take a little walk as it refreshes your brain. Don’t forget to make a custom pomodoro sessions for you for example if you are a complete beginner and your retention rate is cooked you should start with 25 minutes with 15 minutes of break or if you have good retention rate go for 1 hour with 15 minutes break and if you already have best retention rate just go for 90 minutes with 15 minutes break.
I advise you after every 4 Pomodoro sessions just take a half hour break and take a nap, which will literally help you
4. Power naps
Power naps are one of the best ways you could have to recharge after having intense sessions. I discovered this method while I was coming back home from school, and on the bus, I fell asleep for 15 minutes, and when I reached home, I felt zero fatigue. It’s not like I have never heard of power naps before; I wasn’t applying this method before.
Some of you might say that, bro, if I start taking a nap, I always wake up after 3 hours, but that’s not the case. Just don’t forget to put a 15-minute timer on.
5. What if your session got wasted
It happened with almost everyone during their focus sessions; they got distracted, then they blew up the whole timetable and threw it away. But I advise you never to do it. Instead of ending up your whole day with regret, or you will say to yourself bro “kal se”. Instead of doing this, just start continuing your upcoming sessions and progress. It happens with literally everyone.
6. All about Diet
In these years when you have to study the whole day and not to avoid losing your retention rate. Please avoid Junk food as much as you can. Junk food only tastes good for your digestive system; you are just eating trash, nothing else. Diet plays a major role in ruining or building your day, so take your diet seriously.
7. Consistency is the key
Studying isn’t a difficult task, but it needs a lot of mental energy; not everyone has such mental energy. During your day 3 or 4, your brain will literally lag, it will say, “just go back to your comfort zone,” and it is the most difficult step in building a study habit. On day 4, don’t lose hope and don’t even try to use your phone during the day, because if you do it, your brain will literally be like “bro this is the type of life I wanted”. Your brain is not your enemy; it is just addicted to short-term dopamine surges, etc. You just need to rewire it. As I said earlier, your brain is not your enemy; it is just a mere reflection of yourself. It depends on you how you are going to shape it.
8. Role of polymathy in student life
Well, the truth about being a polymath is that it is one of the best things on this planet, but for now, it’s not the best thing because we are in such a phase that we have to prove a lot. We should be focusing on a particular thing instead of 2-3 things. Some of you might not relate to these words, and some of you will. It actually depends on what kind of life a student is living
Conclusion:
That’s it for today. I am 100 percent sure that the steps I have told you today are 100 percent working. I am also on a 21-day study building habit challenge. Let’s build this habit together. I hope these steps will help you and help you to become an elite student. I am not going to post for a month because I want to take my steps on myself. What I actually mean here is that before now, I was just studying without following any of these steps, and I tried these steps for a month, and it really worked.
